Science Pavilion UZH

Can electric current be conducted without loss? How can a Maglev high-speed train float? What do lead, aluminium and mercury have in common at low temperatures?

Would you like to know how to make materials float? This quantum mechanical phenomenon occurs only at extremely low temperatures and is called superconductivity. Are you wondering if there will ever be materials that are superconducting even in normal conditions? Through fascinating first-hand experience in this exhibition, you will get your question answered. The researchers at UZH share your curiosity, because half their lives revolve around these and other highly exciting questions, leading them to earn the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1987.
